Coming to a foreign country, regardless of your travel experience, is a scary undertaking. The idea of being in unfamiliar territory is unnerving because it means that you will have to go outside of yourself, and adapt to a whole new way of thinking and living. But it’s that mystery, and the prospect of being able to experience something new, that make traveling so exciting.

When I first decided to apply to come to Sweden through Johnson & Wales University’s study abroad program, I was no different from any average traveler. However IHM Business School, without a doubt, made the cultural transition that much easier. From the very beginning, the staff welcomed us with open arms, and always made it a point to make sure that our stay was a positive one. Their hard work, sincerity, and dedication to bridging the gap between countries were evident with everything they did. From helping us print off our assignments, to recommending places to visit, to asking how our weekend was, IHM is truly invested in all aspects of their student’s experience.

Living in Gothenburg has also made this new experience that much better. Over the past months, this city has become one of my favorite places because not only has it allowed me to explore my Swedish heritage, but Gothenburg also offers a great sampling of all that Sweden has to offer. The Avenue is full of great restaurants, shopping, and nightlife, and if you want to explore the city, the public transportation is amazing.

Coming to Sweden has been one of the best decisions I have ever made, and thanks to IHM, and the people of Gothenburg, it has become one of my greatest life experiences.
